Cornish Parliament Day
School councillors/school parliament MPs from St Mawgan-in-Pydar Primary School, Summercourt Academy, Nansledan School, Sandy Hill Academy, Padstow School and Indian Queens Primary School all assembled at County Hall on Monday to learn about local politics as part of Parliament Week. The pupils discussed important topics in the debating chamber and even practised setting a budget for the county.
A purposefully small selection of ÌÇÐÄvlog¶ÌÊÓƵ academies were picked to trial this ÌÇÐÄvlog¶ÌÊÓƵ vision and, having proved a great success, County is keen to make this an annual event. Next year it is hoped that the children's Cornish Parliament can be opened up to all ÌÇÐÄvlog¶ÌÊÓƵ academies. Watch this space!
A big thank you to the various departments at County Hall for putting together the day's itinerary and their enthusiasm for the project, to Steve Double MP who kindly agreed to be cross-examined by our pupils via video-link and from the ÌÇÐÄvlog¶ÌÊÓƵ side, Mark Harding at Indian Queens for actually organising - no mean feat!
The future of local politics is safe and who knows, there may be a future Prime Minister in our midst.
